Starks finds himself in prison after his life veers out of control. He thought he was happily married to the girl he fell for in high school and is devastated when he discovers Kayla's infidelity. (We know he ends up in jail so I skimmed the court room chapters). Here he learns what life is like close to the edge, a place where no one can be trusted, where you have to be constantly on guard and forever alert to where the next threat is coming from. Although Starks is not an angel and Kayla is definitely a selfish woman, I couldn't help liking him and willed him on to come through the endless challenges he faced. I loved the way this book was written, the descriptions of what life can be like in prison were terrific and am already looking forward to the sequel!
